Mr. William Lee Fincher was born on November 23, 1946, to John and Mary Fincher in Marion, Alabama. At an early age, William and his family moved from Alabama to Fort Wayne, Indiana where he received his formal education through the Fort Wayne Community School System, graduating from Central High School in 1965.
Brother Fincher accepted Jesus Christ at an early age when he attended Pilgrim Baptist Church of Fort Wayne. William was inducted into the United States Army on December 13, 1966, and served honorably with the 2nd Supply and Transport Battalion, South Korea, until December 6, 1968.
William was employed with Perfection Bakeries, Inc., from October 1969 until his retirement in the Spring of 2004. He faithfully carried out various duties with Perfection Bakeries, Inc. for over 37 years. In his leisure, William enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing, listening to the oldies, reading, and playing the lottery. He enjoyed helping others and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
On November 1, 1980, Brother Fincher joined together in holy matrimony with his sweetheart, Betty L. Thomas whom he loved beyond measure. His full attention to marital responsibility was evident. Mr. and Mrs. Fincher were married for 42 years and 22 days.
He was affectionately known as “Boogie” and “Poppy” by his many friends and family. “Boogie” possessed a very courageous soul. His infectious and loving personality never eluded him. His sense of purpose as a strong man and provider was evident in his every action. He swiftly faced every obstacle and challenge head-on, and his Godly blessings were apparent and were very visible through his many accomplishments. He knew and realized his life’s purpose.
William Fincher was truly blessed. He was born on November 23, 1946 and departed this life on November 23, 2022. He was preceded in death by his loving father, John Fincher; mother, Mary Fincher; treasured sons Eric Thomas and Diron Fincher; dearest granddaughters Erica King and Shyla Thomas; beloved brothers, John, Ezell, and Robert; cherished sisters, Mattie, Martha, and Emma. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Betty; adored sons James, Mervin, and Tracy Thomas; loving daughter, Carla Scott; beloved brothers, Charles, Joseph, and David Fincher and Jerry Chapman; and precious sisters Lillian and Sarah, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other loving relatives and friends
