Vernon Poindexter, 83, was born in Clarksville, Tennessee on August 6, 1938, to Hugh Poindexter and Rosie (Blair) Batson.
Vernon moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana at an early age and became a dedicated usher and member of Greater Progressive Baptist Church. He was a brick mason by trade but also was the owner and operator of Poindexter and Sons Trucking.
Vernon was always willing to share words of encouragement and wisdom when the opportunity presented itself.
He had a tremendous love for his family. He also loved hunting and fishing. Vernon was very passionate about raising his hunting dogs.
Vernon is survived by his children; Carolyn Poindexter (Charles Eichelberger) of Tennessee, Leonard (Jennifer) Poindexter of Tennessee, Freddie Poindexter of Tennessee, Zandra Mills of Tennessee, Darryl (Jane) Poindexter of Ohio, Veronica Poindexter of Indiana, Rachel Anderson of Washington, Terrance (Tyra) Poindexter of Indiana, his siblings; Charles Poindexter of Tennessee, Georgia (Jay) Howe of Tennessee, and Lewis (Gwen) Poindexter of Indiana, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; Hugh Poindexter and Rosie J. (Blair) Batson, one sister; Rosie Jean Gillespie, and one brother; Cosby Poindexter.
