Tony LaPorti Woods was born March 2, 1948, in Marion, Alabama, to Bessie Woods and Jafus Williams. Tony moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1957. He obtained his barber's license and opened Tony's Barber Shop in 1970. He was the lead singer in two bands that performed all over Indiana. He enjoyed his life to the fullest. Tony accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Tonsha Woods, Robert (Angela) Stephens, Kyra Woods-Buckner, Shandrika (Angelo) Bryant-Williams, Limuel (Valinda) Woods, Nathan McKinney; siblings, Christopher (Shirley) Woods, Debra Woods-Fields, Brenda Woods, Felicia (Curt) Woods-Macon, Travis Woods; step-father, Charles Turner; close friend, Winston Wright; special caretaker, Jasmine Bryant; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Tony was preceded in death by his daughter, Toni Woods; granddaughter, Angel Stephens; great-grandson, Jurdan Sims; mother, Bessie Turner; father, Jafus Williams; brother, Jafus Woods, Sr; niece, Marsha Fields-Bright; and son-in-law, Galen Buckner.
