Thomas M. Masterson departed this earthly life on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. Born on October 7, 1950, in Newhall, West Virginia, to the late Bert and Virgie Masterson, Thomas was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose memory will forever be cherished. He was one of seven siblings, five of whom proceeded him in death—Ada Masterson, Bessie Dodds, Mary Thompson, Lorine Masterson, and Debra Masterson. He is survived by his loving brother Nathaniel Masterson of Lima, Ohio, a constant source of support and connection throughout his life. Thomas also endured the loss of two of his children, Ernest Lee Griffin and Sherri Lynn Billingsley, whose spirits live on in his memory.
Thomas embraced life with kindness, faith, and dedication. A longtime member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late C.E. Walker. Thomas later found a spiritual home at Unity Worship Center, where he served under the former pastor Joey W. Simpson. His faith was unwavering, guiding his actions and shaping his relationships with those around him.
Thomas found immense joy in life’s simple pleasures. He had a green thumb and took great pride in his garden and yard, where he nurtured life with patience and care. A lover of community and connection, he spent countless hours playing Bingo, where his laughter and cheerful spirit filled the room. He also enjoyed his daily visits to Walmart, finding joy in the familiar faces he encountered there.Someone would always say "I saw Thomas at Walmart".
What truly defined Thomas was his boundless love for children, especially his grandchildren, who held a special place in his heart. His tender care and playful spirit made him the center of their world, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.
Thomas leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his cherished wife of 54 beautiful years, Loretta Yvonne Masterson. Together, they built a family, and a life filled with unwavering love and countless moments of joy. He is also survived by his children Robert Scott, Rev. Terry (Andera) Griffin, Pastor Gary A. Griffin, Antione M. Billingsley, and Yoshzmine Harriston, who carry forward his values of kindness, faith, and family. His memory lives on in his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, each touched by his kindness and generosity. Among them, special love and recognition go to his niece Beulah, and his nephews Derek and David Masterson of Fort Wayne, who held a unique and cherished bond with Thomas.
Thomas's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and resilience. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will remember his gentle spirit, his warm smile, and his unshakable sense of family. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be a comfort and inspiration to all who loved him
