Terry “Tony” Carter Martin was born to Maude and Wallace Martin, and Virdo Jones. Tony attended South Side High School. In 1972, he joined the United States Air Force, where he received an honorable discharge. Tony was a member of the American Legion Post #148- Commander Anthony Payne.He worked for Slater Steel for a number of years and later CME.
Tony enjoyed cooking for his family, watching sports, and listening to school music such as the Delphonics and the Temptations.
Tony leaves to cherish in his memory, his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Martin, daughters, Tamika J. (Terrance Peggins, Sr) Martin and Urena Walker, sons, Contrell (Lottic) Swopshire, Sr., and Jason Swopshire, Sr., brother, Larry D. Martin, sisters, Patricia (Robert) Magee, and Yvonne (Tiny) Berry, sister-in-law, Jerry D. McKinney, grandchildren, Jalin Miles, Tamia Alexander, Ania Walker, Terrance Peggins, Jr., Ashlyn Walker, Contrell Swopshire, Jr., Jaya Swopshire, Chandler Swopshire, Jason Swopshire, Jr., and Ja’Zaii Swopshire, great-grandson, Micah Alexander, Special nephew, Courtney (Nicole Seiss) Martin, and a host of nieces, and nephews.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Maude and Wallace Martin and Virdo Jones, sister, Jaqui Martin, brother, Wallace Martin, Jr., mother and father-in-law, Annie Bell and Jordan White, sisters-in-law, Lavina Jones and Molly Brown, brothers-in-law, Lynn, Richard, Willie, and Jimmie White, granddaughter, Jasmine Swopshire.
