Stephanie Brown Obituary

Stephanie Anne Brown was born April 11,1960 to the late Barbara and Curtis Brown. A bright vibrant child, Stephanie was always willing to help. She loved dancing and school talent shows. She graduated from South Side High School in 1978. She was employed by the Holiday Inn in housekeeping services. She later transferred and moved to Columbus, OH in 1998 where she became an executive housekeeper. She joined Faith Ministry Church under the direction of Dr. C. Dexter Wise, III where she served for many years and served in many ministries. She met and married the late John Gilmore in 2000. In 2010 Stephanie was diagnosed with breast cancer, as devastating as it was she endured chemo, radiation, and hair loss. Because of her bravery Susan nicknamed her “Sister Soldier”. During this time she ran cancer fundraisers for the Susan G. Coleman Foundation.

Stephanie moved back home in 2017 kicking down Pilgrim’s Door where she served under the leadership of Pastor S. Shade and then Reverend R. Dix. She served on the under the usher board, kitchen committee, and janitorial services. She was faithful, willing to do whatever she could. A servant’s heart. Stephanie was a member of the American Legion Post 148, where she served as President of Women’s Auxiliary. Raising more money that year than ever before. During which time she continued her fight for cancer survivors by starting and organizing an annual wig drive and ball picking up the baton left by her dear friend Debra Brown. She raised money to purchase wigs so that women of color could be served. The ball was her baby. It brought her so much joy to know that she was giving back. A servant’s heart.

SERVANT. LEADER. PRIZE FIGHTER. MOTHER. DAUGHTER. SISTER. AUNTIE. COUSIN. FRIEND. CO-WORKER. WHATEVER TITLE SHE HELD FOR YOU SHE GAVE HER BEST. A SERVANT’S HEART.

She leaves to cherish her memory her mother Gwendolyn Brown, brother Stephen (Jenny) Brown, sisters Susan Brown Rouse, Kara (Reggie) Whitt, nieces Ashlen, Vera, Anitera, Oshiana, Miracle, nephews Kwasi, John, Curtis, Abdul, JJ, and Channing. And last but not least, her puppy son Benji. She was preceded in her death by her parents Barbara and Curtis Brown, her grandparents Vernon and Ella Mae Brown, brothers Kevin Brown and Robert White, sister Anita Babb, niece Chasity Brown.
