Richard Earl Byers

Richard Earl Byers was born on June 20, 1965, in Waterford, Mississippi, to Ernest and Arlene Byers.

Richard confessed his belief in Christ at a young age and held firmly to those values throughout his life. He graduated from South Side High School in 1983 and proudly served in the United States Navy from 1983 to 1985. He was stationed in Long Beach, California, and received an honorable discharge.

Richard earned a Technical Certificate in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning in May 2015. In May 2016, he earned an Associate of Science degree in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning from Ivy Tech Community College. Richard was employed by Multimatic while also operating his own handyman and lawn care business, which was truly his passion.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Arlene Byers; his sister, Cherlene Morris; and his brothers, Kelvin and Louis Byers.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children, Andre (Latorie) Whitt and Marquitta Byers, both of Fort Wayne, and Tequaysha “Shanay” Tubbs of Indianapolis. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, whom he truly adored; his siblings, Ernest Byers of Fort Wayne and Clemenestine Byers of Memphis as well as a host of relatives and friends who each held a special place in his heart.

Richard was proud to share his journey of sobriety and would have celebrated 17 years of being substance-free on November 4th. He was a faithful member of Come As You Are Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Payton, where he served in the Greeters Ministry until his untimely passing.

Richard was a jokester who loved fashion and comparing his outfits and kicks with those around him. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone whose path he crossed.
