Reverend Horace Hughes

Reverend Horace Hughes was born March 11, 1950 to Vivian Smith Townsend Carson and Horace Hughes in St. Louis, Missouri. He confessed hope in Christ at a very early age and later became an ordained minister at the age of eighteen in June of 1968 under the tutelage of Reverend Greenlee at New Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church. By a previous marriage, he had two children. Reverend Hughes moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1971 where he continued his love for Christ and pastoring. He was joined in marriage once again in May 1980 to Mary Doris Sanders enjoying thirty-nine years together until his departure home to be with the Lord. Reverend Hughes enjoyed a host of churches; touching people with the word until 2013 when him and Mary made Tabernacle Baptist Church their church home. He enjoyed being a senior pastor and playing piano as well as several other instruments, but none greater than his word of mouth to preach.

Reverend Hughes is survived by his wife; Mary D. Hughes of Fort Wayne, Indiana, two daughters; Cherokee Victoria Hughes of Louisville, Kentucky, Taraee Sewell of Fort Wayne, Indiana, one son; Jeffrey Hughes a very special cousin; Rhonda (Bufford) Alexander of Bedford, Ohio, two special friends; Reverend Gary McKee of Fort Wayne, Indiana  and Reverend Gentry of St. Louis, Missouri, his Godfather; Pastor Eddie (Mary) Starks of Fort Wayne, Indiana, sixteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, friends, church family, and in-laws. Reverend Hughes was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Hughes and Vivian Smith Townsend Carson, his brother; Ollie Carson, two grandsons; Willie Hughes and D’Wayne Sanders.
