Some people simply exist — and then there are people like Quincey, who leave an imprint everywhere they go.
Born on June 5, 1972, to the late May Robie Jones and Ralph Hayden, Quincey was truly "Granny’s" baby boy. From childhood, he stood out. He was incredibly book smart -the neighborhood “nerd”, in the very best way. Before any titles or degrees, he carried himself like a professional, walking through the neighborhood with his briefcase, already preparing for the future he believed he could achieve.
He graduated from Northrop High School with honors and later earned degrees in Business Administration from Brown Mackie College and Indiana Tech. Quincey took great pride in his career as a mortgage consultant with Waterfield Mortgage Company. Helping people secure homes was more than a job, it was something he spoke about with satisfaction, confidence and tremendous pride.
But beyond his accomplishments, it was his personality that makes him truly unforgettable.
To most, he was simply “Q.” He loved to be the life of the party. If music was playing, you could count on him to bring out those signature dance moves - the kind only he could pull off. He would never pass up an opportunity to share an adult beverage or two (or three), laugh loudly and fully enjoy the moment. Even when he was trying to be serious, his natural humor would sneak through. He had a way of making people smile without even trying.
Over the last decade, many lovingly referred to him as “Black Man Walking,” because he walked everywhere. Whether headed to see family, friends or simply enjoying his day, he was always on the move. It became part of his identity; steady, visible and getting where he needed to go! The Book of Eli.
Above everything else, Quincey was a father. His children; Kardee Kelsaw Sr., Quintisha Jones, Quiana Jones and Mersadis Lamons— are his greatest legacy. They carry his name, his spirit and his strength forward.
He also leaves behind his loving siblings: Tracy Jones, Chris (Doris) Jones, Jimmie (Vicky) Jones, Valerie Martin, Vanessa Jones-Pearson, Derek (Donna) Masterson, and Rapheal Baskin. He shared a special bond with his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. They loved him deeply and he loved them right back — consistently, protectively and with all of his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; May Robie Jones and Ralph Clark Hayden and his beautiful sister, Stacey Leann Jones.
Quincey’s life was vibrant. He was intelligent, ambitious, funny, and full of personality. He loved big, laughed loudly, and showed up in his own unforgettable way. Late on February 24, 2026, Quincey’s earthly journey came to a close, but his spirit remains forever woven into the fabric of this family and our community.
We will remember the briefcase.
We will remember the dancing.
We will remember the walking.
Most of all, we will remember the love.
Forever our Q. Later.
