Peter Hogan, Jr. Obituary

Peter Mearl “Pete” Hogan Jr. was born April 4, 1961, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Peter M. Sr. and Erma J. (Essex) Hogan. He passed away on January 15, 2022, at the age of 60.

Pete was the oldest of four siblings and received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Redeemer at an early age. He was a member of Haven Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Isaiah Meriweather where he served faithfully. After attending South Side High School, Pete worked in the restaurant industry as a cook. He later was employed by Uniroyal Goodrich for over a decade, and subsequently transitioned back into his life’s passion which was cooking.

Pete made many people happy by catering his secret recipe grilled ribs, chicken, and turkey tips and secret bar-b-que sauces. He shared his love of grilling by working as a grill master and head chef at The Grill restaurant. He also enjoyed baking all kinds of cakes and pies from scratch and working in his vegetable garden.

Pete was one of the most comedic people in the room and loved to play the dozens with those who engaged with him (and those who did not). Pete just made people laugh and forget about their troubles. He was quick on his feet with his fun-filled and colorful, rated G language and was skilled at engaging a person’s five senses by using descriptive words. Pete never met a stranger. He was kind and joked with everyone he met. Mostly, he was passionate about loving and being with his grandchildren who brought him so much joy.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 23 years, Janice (Eaton) Hogan; mother, Erma Hogan; children, Corey (Angela) Carter, DeAaron Carter, Pierre Wright, Jamarcus Green, Geria Hogan, Iesah Hogan-Miller, Shekela Hogan, Nakita Waller, and Anthony Waller; stepchildren, Kihanna Eaton, Sharonda Eaton, Stanley Eaton, Starr Carter, and Elliott Carter; brothers, Jeffrey and Geneori (Christi) Hogan; sixteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Hogan Sr., and his brother Lionel Hogan Sr.
