Ollie Mae Billingslea Johnson was born to Oliver Edwards and Blanch Hughes in Birmingham, Alabama on March 3, 1945. The Lord called her home on Friday, January 3, 2025.
At a young age, Ollie moved to Marion, Alabama to be raised by her grandparents Morris and Mary Hughes. After graduating from Lincoln School, she moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in August 1975 became a member of Friendship Baptist Church and later joined the National Guard where she was soon to be given an honorable discharge.
Ollie worked as a kitchen/teacher aide for 21 years with Fort Wayne Community Schools. She later retired from a mental care health worker from Fort Wayne State Developmental Center after 32 years.
Ollie enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite motto that could always be heard was “I love everybody!” She also enjoyed cooking and visiting the casinos. Although Ollie was a hard worker, funny, and friendly she was also a Sergeant at Arms when it came to discipline with the youth in her family.
Ollie leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Angela Billingslea; an adopted son, Jamal Johnson; seven stepchildren; two adopted grandchildren, Ny’eli Holmes and J’Andre Mitchell; two special children, Charles Seals, and Hiawatha Hunt; an aunt, Elma Mitchell; and a host of siblings, cousins, friends and other relatives.
Ollie is preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Edwards and Blanch Hughes, grandparents, Morris and Mary Hughes; two stepchildren; three aunts, Bernice Causey, Pauline Hughes, and Virginia Bennett; four uncles, Paul Hughes, John Hughes, Earl Hughes and Willie Hughes; and a God Mother, Mallie Craig Lapsley.
