May Jones Obituary

May R. Jones (Bird) was born July 18, 1943, in Holly Springs, MS. She was born into the blessed union of John Henry Jones and Leana (Blackmon) Jones. She made her departure from our physical world on February 17, 2024, after triumphing through this stage of her life with strength, courage, and perseverance.

Our beloved May was baptized in Christ Jesus at a young age under the guidance of the late Rev. Caldwell, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church. She later joined her home in St. John Baptist Church where she remained an active and dedicated sister in Christ through her last days.

May gave back to the community in too many ways to count. Her long-standing membership in the Order of the Eastern Star and her partnership in the Sisters of Ministry with St. John Baptist Church resulted in 100s of hours volunteering her time and energy directly into the community of Fort Wayne, IN. She believed that if everyone did their part, the world would be a better place.

Through the Seasons of Life, May blessed many of us with her confidence, her determination, and her extremely strong work ethic. She attended South Side High School and trade school before becoming an assistant at Central Soya in the Engineering Department. After Central Soya she switched her career to the hospitality field where she spent 15 years as a food and beverage banquet manager with the Holiday Inn/Hilton hotels from where she retired in 2006. But she didn't stop there! After retirement, May dedicated her heart and time to the families of the Vincent Village, focused on giving love and support to the mothers and children in the moments of their lives when she could make a real difference. When our cherished May Robie wasn't working, she enjoyed spending her free time cooking for her family, providing a welcoming home full of love and lessons for all who needed it. Let's be clear-She would not turn down an invitation to the casino nor a cold Michelob!

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry Jones, Leana (Blackmon) Jones, and Mary Frances Bryant. The late Ralph C. Hayden, her sister, Marine Ware, brother, Calvin G. Jones, brother-in-law, Arthur Ware Jr. and her precious daughter, Stacey LeAnn Jones.

Until they meet again, May leaves to cherish her memory four sons and two daughters; Tracy Jones, Chris (Doris) Jones, Jimmie (Vicky) Jones, Quincey Jones, Valerie Martin, Vanessa Jones-Pearson, Godson Derek (Donna) Masterson and her brother, Frank Jones, Sr. Her memory will forever live through her beloved grandchildren; Alvin "Tony" Jones, RaShaunda Jones, Ashley Jones, Adrian (Laquisha) Jones, Alkia Jones, Stacia Jones, Verrika Martin, Demarcus White, Quantrell (Passion) Turner, Quintisha Jones, Tracie (Perry) Pickens, Chris Jones (Jr.), Courtney Jones, Kardee (Queenekia) Kelsaw, Quiana Jones, Javon Turner, Darnell Jones, Dreanna Jones, Jamie Jones-Erby, Tyson Jones, Shamay Jones, Brittany Erby, Jacob "Shine" Sullivan, more than 50 great-grandchildren, a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and wonderful friends with a special mention to her sisters in life; Anita Porter, Sophie Pinkston, Alice Hall, Shirley Lewis, Ms. Folks, Nicole White, and the St. John Missionary Baptist Church family. She loved, she is loved and will be missed by family, friends, and the community.
