Martha Jean Williams

Martha Jean Williams, age 77, quietly departed this life on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at her home in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  She was born November 17, 1945 in Russell County, Alabama to the late Lawyer Elias and Lucinda Elias.  She was the youngest of 4 children. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Lawyer Elias, Jr. and Jimmy Elias. She attended and graduated from Morgan Park High School in Chicago, Illinois. While going to school, she worked part-time at the Chicago Police Department. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she was a dedicated member. 

On February 7, 1969, she was united in holy matrimony to Minister Simon Williams, Jr.  This union was blessed with seven children.  In 1981, the family relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Minister Williams preceded her in death on January 19, 2000. 

She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, like eloquent fashion, chatting with her friends and family and most importantly spending time with her children. She loved to read her bible and pray for and with others. She had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. As a result of her loving, generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by so many. She was always thinking of others first. She was a CNA. She enjoyed being a foster grandparent. But her passion for many years was teaching children at FWCS and at CANI.  Her Christian life was as beautiful as the plants and butterflies that she loved so well. She was a faithful member of Fellowship Missionary Church, where she was part of the Prayer Care & Card Ministry and Generations.  Her sweet quiet influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.  She loved being a part of Just Us Girls.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her seven (7) children: Latissha Williams, Lolita (Ray) Young; Dr. Lalita (Dane) Boykins; Lisa (Eric) Piersimoni, Simon Williams, III, Garrett (Bernadette) Williams and Laschita (Aric) Whelan of Des Plaines, IL; sister Joan Williams of Fort Wayne, IN; twelve (12) grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; devoted family member Jimmie Mae Calhoun of Chicago, IL; faithful girlfriends: Penny Kerr of Country Club Hills, IL and Genois Brabsons of Fort Wayne, IN; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, spiritual daughters, and prayer partners.
