Lionel Hogan Obituary

Lionel (D.J. Jammin’ L) Q. Hogan Sr., 55 passed away on November 2, 2020 at Lutheran Hospital.

Lionel was born January 23, 1965, in Fort Wayne, In., to Peter M. Sr. and Erma (Essex) Hogan. Lionel accepted Christ at an early age and was selfless and fun spirited, whose philosophy was to “get busy living.” Lionel graduated from Southside High School in 1983, afterward he attended truck driving school where he drove over-the-road for Werner trucking. He also worked various jobs before working for Richard Ridley Jr., (Ridley’s Carpet Service) where he learned the craft of laying floors and eventually became the owner and operator of his own flooring business for more than two decades (Hogan’s Flooring).

D.J. Jammin’ L began his journey in music at the age of two and played music for over four decades that bought joyful memories to his many listeners. Lionel was known as a legend when it came to his craft as a D.J. The many places he D.J’d were: Old Fort YMCA, Strokers, Ball, Pyramid, 19th Hole, Oasis, Boys and Girls Club, Ozzies, Roller Dome South, Steins Tavern, Club Z, Links, Double-Down, Latch String, and Legends. He also D.J’d many family reunions, graduations, birthday parties, and wedding receptions and was the D.J. for the Fort Wayne Travelers Bowling League. As a car enthusiast, Lionel was a member (Sergeant at Arms) with the Kings of Cadillac Club of Fort Wayne, In. Lionel enjoyed spending time with family and friends, grilling and watching sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings, their #1 fan.

He is survived by his mother, Erma (Essex) Hogan, brothers Peter (Janice) Hogan Jr., Jeffrey Hogan, Geneori (Christi) Hogan; children, Branden (Shank) Hogan, Tiffany, Haley, Madison, Monae, Aniyah, Lionel Jr., and Amareah Hogan; 4 grandchildren; special uncle Richard Ridley Jr.; Special Brothers: Adam Boylan, Rick Brown, Lex Gibson, Rod Meriweather, and Neal Wattley; and a host of special relatives and great friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Hogan Sr.
