Leroy “Buster” Thomas, 66, departed this life on January 5, 2026, at Lutheran Life Villages (South Anthony) at 4:38 a.m., surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 14, 1959, in Uniontown (Perry County), Alabama, to Jimmie Charles Thomas and Willie Mae (Chapman) Thomas.
Leroy accepted Christ at an early age, setting a foundation of faith that would guide him throughout his life. As a proud member of The Star of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Leroy found spiritual nourishment under the leadership of the late Pastor Hue Guy, Sr. His favorite saying, “The Lord will take care of it,” was a testament to his unwavering faith and trust in God.
He was a graduate of Snider High School. Leroy had a passion for sports, particularly basketball and football, and often enjoyed watching games with enthusiasm. His love for music was another source of joy, providing a soundtrack to his life's journey. He also had a talent for working on cars, a hobby he enjoyed both alone and with friends, relishing the satisfaction of a job well done.
Family was at the heart of Leroy's life. He was immensely proud of his son, Deshaun, who reached the professional basketball level. Leroy cherished attending as many of Deshaun's games as possible, celebrating his son's achievements with pride and joy.
Throughout his career, Leroy dedicated himself to serving others. He worked at the State Hospital and Anthony Wayne Services, where his contributions were valued and appreciated.
Leroy leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. His son, Deshaun Leroy (Jasmine) Thomas, continues to honor his father's memory, alongside his siblings: DeLois (John) Johnson, Floyd Thomas, Shirley Thomas, Orlando Thomas, Kevin (Ellen) Thomas, Byron Thomas, and Erma (Larry) Gist; three (3) grandchildren, Deshaun Leroy Thomas, Jr., Mason Thomas, and Jayce Thomas; and his lifetime friends Pastor David Moore and Wayne Hendry.
Leroy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary Francis Thompson and Willie Thompson; parents, Willie Mae (Chapman) Thomas and Jimmie Charles Thomas; and his brother, Leonard Chapman.
