A Celebration of the Life of Leonard Van Curry
Leonard Van (Bud) Curry was born in Fort Wayne, IN, on April 15, 1948, to Lewis Curry Jr. and Henrietta Walls-Curry. He graduated from Central High School, where he was a 4-year varsity letterman on the football team in the position of kicker. He was known as "Golden Toe" due to his kicking abilities. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, receiving an honorable discharge upon completion of service. After returning to Fort Wayne, Bud began a 37-year-long career at Dana Incorporated, where he was promoted to different leadership positions, including being an essential advocate within the Employee Assistance Program, where he helped his colleagues navigate areas of substance recovery. Bud received various awards and achievements throughout his career. Bud was a man of God who read his bible daily. He was an avid fisherman, and he participated in an annual fishing trip with his friends for decades. Bud was a music connoisseur who enjoyed various types of music.
Bud made his greatest catch on December 30, 1978, when he married the love of his life, Mary Sue Curry. Bud was a dad to Franklin Jones Jr. during their union, and the couple welcomed a daughter, Shampree S. Williams, and a son Lewis W. Curry. During their marriage, Bud and Sue enjoyed traveling the country to attend various concerts.
Bud was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Curry Jr., mother, Henrietta Walls Curry, brothers, John and Floyd, and sisters, Mary Louis, Frankie Mae, and Kay. He leaves to cherish his memory, brother Roderic Jerome Curry, his wife Mary Sue Curry, sons Franklin Jones Jr. (Rebecca) and Lewis Walter Curry (Andrea), and daughter Shampree S. Williams (Adrian). Bud was a beloved grandfather and will be missed by his grandchildren Franklin Jones III, Jalen Jones, Myka Williams, Layla Williams, Uriah Williams, Malia Williams, Jackson Curry and Maxwell Curry. A host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and other close family and friends will cherish their times with Bud.
