LaVonia "Vonnie" Washington, 57, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, peacefully passed away on July 30, 2025, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne with her beloved husband of 31 years, Charles Washington, holding her hand. She peacefully took her last breath after he told her he loved her and it was okay to go with Jehovah.
LaVonia was born on January 12, 1968, to Robert (Bobby) Johnson and Classie Johnson (Royal).
Family
LaVonia was preceded in death by her parents Robert (Bobby) Johnson and Classie Johnson (Royal), and her siblings Troydis Johnson and Nikki Johnson.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 31 years, Charles Washington; her children, Vondale Washington and his fiancé Chakia Robertson, and DaVon Washington and his wife Ashley Washington; and her ten cherished grandchildren: Jordan, Joseph, Na'Zia, Zoie, and Journee (Vondale and Chakia); and Avayah, JaVen, Naomi, Samara and Iris (DaVon and Ashley). She is also survived by her siblings Valerie Johnson and Doug Johnson, her father-in-law Jesse Washington, her mother-in-law Leola Schroeder, as well as a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who all loved her deeply.
Professional Accomplishments
LaVonia distinguished herself as a skilled accountant and bookkeeper for Baden Gage & Schroeder LLC, CPA for nearly 15 years, where she earned respect for her expertise and unwavering dedication. She also built and maintained her thriving tax preparation business, Washington Tax Service, for 11 years, serving her community with professionalism and care. Her commitment to excellence extended to her education—at the time of her passing, she was just two courses away from completing her Master's Degree in Accounting, a testament to her lifelong pursuit of knowledge and professional growth.
A Life of Love and Service
While expertly balancing a demanding career and academic pursuits, LaVonia never wavered in her commitment to being an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She had an unwavering presence at every milestone and celebration in her children's and grandchildren's lives, ensuring that her love was felt in every important moment. LaVonia treasured time spent with family and friends, regularly attending gatherings filled with laughter, love, and spirited card games that brought everyone together.
Her heart overflowed with kindness and generosity. LaVonia loved with extraordinary depth, particularly her husband, children, and grandchildren, and she frequently expressed the immense joy her family brought to her life. She possessed a remarkable gift for showing up exactly when needed, offering unwavering support and ensuring that those she loved always felt cared for and valued. Her acts of service came naturally and without hesitation, reflecting the beautiful spirit that defined her character.
Her Lasting Legacy
LaVonia's legacy is one of unconditional love, unwavering dedication, and selfless service to others. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit of generosity, her infectious joy, and her boundless capacity for love will continue to inspire and comfort those whose lives she touched. Though she has gone to be with Jehovah, the impact of her beautiful life will forever remain in the hearts of her beloved family and friends
