Kevin Powers was born on January 28, 1971 in Chicago, Illinois to the union of Mary E. Powers and Carl A. Powers. He attended and graduated from Bishop Luers High School in 1989 where he was a standout athlete in swimming, football, and track. Kevin joined the United States Marine Corps in April of 1990. He was Honorably and medically discharged in December of 1994. During his time in the military, he was stationed in California, where he met Lisa J. Wilhoit. They joined in matrimony on March 5, 1993. From this union, they raised three sons; Daronte Aaron Powers, Deion Ray Powers, and Keion Travell Powers. He has one granddaughter whom he cherished, Nimah Zoelle Powers.
Kevin Powers watched his mother with her crafting skills which led him into starting his own business, "Goldie’s Custom Deigns". A business that reached national level servicing patrons from coast to coast. Kevin and his wife Lisa spent dedicated hours supporting their boys in their academic and athletic endeavors throughout their toddler years and college. He was a proud, original father of the My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Foundation. Kevin believed in that support, so much that he fought well past the expectancy of his life to see his youngest two sons graduate from college. He was determined to be present for what he believed would be one of his proudest moments, being the father of three college graduates. All three of their sons graduated with a bachelor’s degree. He was involved not only with his sons but made himself available to support the endeavors of all his family members and friends.
Kevin Powers leaves to cherish his memory, his wife; Lisa Powers, sons; Daronte Powers, Deion Powers, and Keion Powers, granddaughter; Nimah Powers, mother; Mary Hill, father; Carl (Sharon) Powers, sisters; Keva Powers-Reed, Kasandra (Aaron) Johnson, Crystal Powers, Adrienne Powers, brothers; Kettienne (Telisa) Powers, Kwinston (Rebecca) Powers, Carlos (Tanisha) Bellamy, De’Andre Powers, and Bryan Powers, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
