Jesse Eugene Scott
“Skeeter”
Jessie “Skeeter” Eugene Scott was born on May 13, 1950, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to his loving parents, Eddie Scott and Nona Scott. He was the second oldest of nine children and grew up surrounded by the love and companionship amongst his brothers, Luther, John, Rory, Marvin, and Keith, and his sisters Deborah, Karen, and Twyla.
From an early age, Jesse possessed a joyful spirit and a love for people. As a child, he enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, singing in the choir, and going to church.
Jesse received his education from Central High School, graduating in 1969. After high school, he attended Suomi College in Hancock, Michigan, where he played basketball. It was during that time he developed a strong work ethic and a genuine desire to serve others. After leaving college, Jesse went to Denver to visit and ended up making Denver his home.
For more than 40 years, Jesse faithfully worked and showed his entrepreneurial skills as founder and owner of Park Hill Barbers. Barbering was more than a profession for him; the shop provided an opportunity to connect with people. He had clients that included NFL athletes, NBA athletes, and even the mayor. Through his barbering, he was able to share conversations, offer encouragement and build lasting relationships. Over the decades, countless individuals sat in his chair and experienced not only his skill as a barber but also his warm and caring personality.
His strong faith and values carried on into his shop as well. He always spoke about church, and inappropriate language was not allowed!
Faith played an important role throughout Jesse’s life. He was a longtime member of Antioch Church of God in Christ of Denver, where he faithfully used his musical gifts in service to God. Jesse served as District Minister of Music for the Northeastern District, sharing his love for gospel music and ministry with congregations and choirs.
Among the many friendships, Jessie treasured those that he had dating as far back as elementary school. His life was enriched by the many people he encountered throughout the years, and he will be remembered for his willingness to help others, his love for people, and the smile he so freely shared.
Jesse leaves behind a legacy that reaches far beyond the years he lived. His legacy can be heard in the gospel songs he loved, seen in the people he served, and felt in the hearts of his family, friends, church family, customers, and all who were blessed to know him.
Though his earthly journey has come to an end, the memories of Jesse will continue to bring smiles, laughter, comfort, and inspiration for generations to come.
Jesse leaves to cherish his memory his son, Javon Russel of Denver, Colorado; his brothers, Luther (Gladis) Betties of Boca Raton, Florida, Rory and Keith Scott of Fort Wayne, and Marvin Perkins of Fort Wayne; sisters, Karen Patterson and Twyla Williams of Fort Wayne, and a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Nona Scott, a sister, Deborah Scott, and a brother, John Scott.
His life was a life of service.
His gift was music.
His profession was barbering.
His joy was helping others, and his legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
