Janet C. Jones

Janet Jones was born December 22, 1941 in Birmingham, AL. to the late Sarah L. Sledge and Daniel Coleman. She departed this life on Friday May 6, 2022 at home.

On March 22, 1958 in Birmingham, AL. Janet married the love of her life David “Willie” Jones Jr. and in 1961 they moved to Fort Wayne IN. Where she was employed by The State Developmental Center also known as “State School” until her retirement in 2007 after 40 years of service.

Janet had a strong belief in God and accepted Christ at an early age. She was a very active member of Light of the World Christian Church, under the leadership of Pastor Cornelius Hill.

Those who knew her knew she was also an excellent cook! But she also loved to travel, shop, and read. Her love for crocheting which was her special gift and she loved hanging out with her family.

Janet will be lovingly remembered by her children, 4 sons: Michael (Gloria) of Birmingham, AL, Carey (Brenda), Mark and Brian, 3 daughters: Danielle (Charles), Gabrielle, and Janelle, all of Ft Wayne IN.  18 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. 2 brothers, Ellois (Betty) Coleman of Edgewater AL and Robert Coleman (Kathryn) of Chicago IL, 1 sister Lucille Pace of Edgewater, AL, 1 Aunt Willard Dean Slaughter of Bessemer AL, special sister and brother, Marleen Anderson of Chino Hills, CA, and Albert (Jr. Boy) Reeves of Ft. Wayne, IN, her 4-legged fur baby, Wilson Jones along with nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

            She was preceded in death by her husband David W. Jones Jr., and her parents, Sarah L Sledge, and Daniel Coleman.
