We come to honor James Robert “Toug” Perry, who was born to Rev. Calvin Perry and Oretha Perry on January 3, 1953, in Brent, Alabama. He departed his earthly life on May 16, 2026, peacefully at home. James was a veteran of the United States Army, for which he served for five years.
He had a love for landscaping. He spent many years mowing and trimming hedges, making lawns beautiful. Music, fashion, and dancing were his talents. Toug often attended social clubs, family events, and both modeling and dancing.
Most notable was James smiling as he tipped his hat to many as they passed by.
He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Detrick Coleman, and siblings Arthur Lee Perry, Maureen and Joseph Gray, Diane Perry-Wimberly, Shelia Floure, Cardell Perry, Beryl and Walter Green, Damon Perry, Larry and Patty Russell, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
James is preceded in death by his father, Rev. Calvin Perry, and his mother, Oretha Perry. Seven siblings: Lee Andrew Perry, Oceanus Perry, Calvin Perry Jr., Garrett Lee Perry, Tina Perry, Kimberly Perry, and Beverly Grissom, his beloved Ethel Ree Perry, who nurtured and cherished him from infancy.
