James Kendrick, Sr. Obituary

His Journey

James peacefully transitioned on December 25, 2020 at Parkview Hospital.  With everlasting gratitude for his life, loyalty to family and friends and courageous spirit, we set aside this day to remember the man, the myth, the legend James L. Kendrick, Sr.  We remember his smile, infectious laugh, compassion, determination and work ethic.

James L. Kendrick Sr. was born on January 6, 1935 to the late Charles and Willa Pearl Kendrick in Fort Wayne, Indiana.   James was a 1955 Central High School graduate.

James served our country for three years as a Seaman for the United States Navy.  He dedicated 30 years of service at Foamex before his retirement.

James had a positive magnetic spirit.  It was obvious from a young age that he had a special gift to bring people together. If you ever had the honor of knowing him as a friend, you often become family. He cared enough for you to check on you often. His check-ins felt intentional and full of love and concern.  He was a man of strong family values. He ensured that his family unit never wanted for anything.

James had an infinite love for health and fitness, he worked out dutifully at the gym and often showed the fruits of his labor by donning his muscle shirts.  During his relaxation time, he enjoyed watching Wildlife, Basketball, Football, Professional fights and Family Feud.  He loved attending bible study at The Spiritual Israel Church and It’s Army.

James’ presence in our lives will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  He leaves to cherish his loving wife, Valerie R. Kendrick; son, James (Veda) Kendrick, Jr; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two Godchildren; three sisters, Ruth Ann Wilkerson, Martha Jean Curry and Alecha (William) Scott; lifelong friends, Joe Green, Robert Starke and a host of extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Willa Pearl Kendrick and brothers, Richard L. Brooks and Mark Anthony Brooks.

Covid -19 restrictions will be followed
