Gregory Elijah Cooper was born on May 11, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois, to Elijah Cooper and Nancy Cooper. Greg accepted Christ at an early age. The family moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1976. He attended North Side High School and graduated in 1979. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army. When he was discharged, he returned home. He worked at the Fort Wayne newspaper company for several years, at the Hilton Hotel downtown for several years, and also as a caregiver. Gregory loved spending time with his family and brought joy into the lives of those around him.
He will be lovingly remembered for telling jokes, making people laugh, and always being willing to help his family, friends, and anyone in need. Greg never met a stranger. His warm spirit, generous heart, and wonderful sense of humor created many cherished memories that his loved ones will carry with them forever. Although Gregory is no longer with us physically, we find comfort in John 11:25–26, where Jesus tells us that whosoever believes in Him will live, even after dying. Knowing that he had unwavering faith in the Lord, we believe that he is resting peacefully in the presence of his Savior. His laughter, kindness, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him. Gregory Elijah Cooper.
Gregory was preceded in death by his father, Elijah Cooper; grandmothers, Rosie Carter and Mary Lizzy Cooper; grandfather, Luther Cooper; and niece, Shambrielle Cooper. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Nancy Cooper; sisters, Barbara Eatmon Raquel Daye (Mark), Cynthia Echols (Charles), Bernadette Cooper (Charles Dies), and Benita Robinson (Timothy); brothers, Darryl Cooper (Michelle) and Derrick Cooper; nieces, Admira Cooper and Sukenya Cooper; nephews, Dwight Eatmon, Anthwon Cooper, Kenneth Eatmon, and Jiair Cooper; uncle, James Cooper (Linda); aunties, Unita Cooper and Ozella Cooper; special friend, Loretta Downtown; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
