Gloria Howell Obituary

Gloria Howell was born on February 7, 1957 in Fort Wayne Indiana.  She departed this life on August 20, 2024. She was the youngest of five children born to Reverend Willie M. Howell and Mrs. Mary Lee Jeanes Howell, both of whom preceded her in death. Marion Howell, her sister also preceded in her death. Gloria is a graduate of Snider High School and a lifelong resident of Fort Wayne. Gloria had a passion for supporting and encouraging young people. Many of them kept in touch and continued to visit with her over the years. Some call her “Mom” today. Gloria worked in the Pediatric Department at Parkview Hospital; Ft. Wayne State School; Whittington Group Home for Girls and Master Spa. She established and managed a childcare business, that provided before-and- after school support to working parents.  She was also a foster parent.

Gloria was a member of Community Baptist Church, where her father served as Pastor. She later joined Greater Progressive Baptist Church where she actively participated for many years along with her former husband Mr. Harrell Lanier. Gloria subsequently united with Harvest Word of Life Ministries, founded and led by her brother Bishop Malcolm Howell and his wife Pastor Jacqueline Howell, where her membership remains.

Gloria is the mother of five children: Shana Foote; Antwanette Foote (deceased); Precious Davis (deceased); Royal Davis Jr; and Brittany Davis.  She has four grandsons: Ivan Hood III; Britan Davis; Braylen Davis; and Breaun Davis.  Gloria holds a very special place in her heart for Ivan’s Godmother Quenita Brown. Gloria has a large and loving immediate and extended family. She leaves to cherish precious memories, two brothers: Mr. James A. Howell and Bishop Malcom Howell (Pastor Jacqueline Howell) of Ft. Wayne; and her sister Ms. Pearl Howell Banks of San Fransisco, California; their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Double cousins Ms. Maxine Files and Mrs. Ernestine Hamilton (Mr. Clark Hamilton) and their families. She has many loving cousins, extended family members and wonderful friends.
