George Knight, Jr. Obituary

“And God shall wipe all tears away from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4 A Time To Be Born…

JR was the youngest son of Rev. George Sr and Mary Knight. He was born in Washington, DC on January 29, 1977. To this union, five children were born: Nolan, Marty, Darryl and Vashon. As a toddler, the family relocated to James Island, SC. JR was also affectionately known as South Kak and Big Jinx. A Time To Love… On June 5, 2017, he married the love of his life Shakira Washington. They have been together for over 23 years. They were often affectionately called “Bonnie and Clyde”! They were inseparable. When you saw one you knew the other wasn't far behind. A link in our chain has been broken. A Time To Every Purpose Under The Sun… JR received his primary education in Charleston County Public Schools. He began his early education while living on James Island and his family moved to John’s Island where he continued his education and later received his GED. He knew the Lord at an early age. He accepted Christ and was baptized at Nazarene Baptist Church in Ravenel, SC and was assisted by his father Rev. George Knight, Sr. JR loved everyone and ALWAYS had a dog with him (if not one, two)! He loved making people laugh, he loved entertaining people and was everyone’s “Big Bubba”. He never met a stranger and he was most importantly, a gentle giant. A Time To Die… Just in the prime of his life, JR’s life was taken away from us on Saturday, October 7, 2023 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He will be truly missed.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary L. Knight on Sept 4, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his best friends Dennis “Big D” Fleming and Ramonte “Rico” Simmons. A Time To Mourn… He leaves behind to cherish his fond memories: his wife, Shakira; his father George (Patricia) of Fort Wayne, IN; his brothers, Nolan of James Island, SC, Marty and Darryl both of North Charleston, SC; and sister, Vashon of Fort Wayne, IN; mother in law Celestine Stokes, sisters in law, brothers in law, uncles, aunts, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many relatives and friends.
