Gatred “Elayne” Brabson was born December 31, 1953 in Knoxville, Tennessee to Geneva “NeNe” Brabson-Little and Charles “Chick” Thomas Mills, both of Knoxville, Tennessee. Elayne accepted Christ at a young age. She was a member of Christ Church of Faith under the leadership of the late Pastor Clarence Eldridge. Elayne attended Central High School and St. Mary’s Catholic School. Elayne was employed at Peerless Dry Cleaners for a number of years. In the late great words of “NeNe”, her mother, “Elayne would kill a Brick about her family, especially her children and grandchildren”. Elayne loved family gatherings in which she could never decide on who’s house she would go to first, but we all know Dutchy trumped all of us. Elayne was a giver to everyone in need, even if she had only known them for a short time. Elayne was full of wisdom and sound advice and would never bite her tongue. But her words would always make you think, even if it hurt, her words would make you see “your” actions to be a better person. In her past-time, Elayne loved to watch gospel programs, suspense dramas, and reality shows. But most of all she loved talking to the Lord and spending time with her family.
Elayne leaves to cherish her five children, Andre (Elizabeth) Brabson, Robin (Javon) Wright, Glenn (Priscilla) Rau, James Eric Brabson, III (Kurly), Byron (Quandra) Brabson, fifteen grandchildren, her first grandson, Breante Thomas, sister and brothers, James Eric “Jake” (Genois) Brabson of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Carol (Vernon) Brabson-Martin of Tennessee, Gary (Mary) Brabson of Fort Wayne, Indiana. She also leaves to cherish her memory, her life-long friend and special sister, Ms. Shirley Mack, along with a host of nephews, nieces, loved ones, family and friends.
Elayne was preceded in death by her parents, Geneva Charlotte “NeNe” Brabson-Little and Charles Thomas “Chick” Mills, her beloved son, Sean (Golden Child) Brabson, granddaughter, Nigeria Holley, brother, Neil Brabson, and life-long companion, Charles Springer.
