Eugene Jackson

Eugene (Gene) Jackson was born on March 10, 1936, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to Harry Jackson and Ada (Ware) Jackson. On Wednesday, June 17, 2026 he peacefully gained his wings, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and cherished memories.

Gene gave his life to Christ at a young age. As an adult, he became a dedicated member of Greater Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Reverend Jessie White. Gene served as a devoted doorkeeper before becoming the president of the Usher Ministry, a role in which he faithfully served for thirty years.

Gene had a zest for life. He loved fishing, bowling, golfing, and hunting with his stepfather. An avid cook, Gene was particularly known for his barbecuing skills, complete with his own award-winning sauce and his famed Arkansas toast, a delicacy beloved by certain members of the congregation couldn't get enough of to go along with his greens! His sense of style was impeccable, often seen in double-breasted suits with matching shoes and hats; and you best believe if the shoes didn't match, he dyed them so they would and he took great pride in winning several best-dressed contests throughout the city.

Gene worked various jobs in Fort Wayne before securing a position at Magnavox, where he worked as a skilled tradesman for 36 years, retiring in December 1999. Additionally, he was the President and CEO of his own Janitorial Service, Hoosier Industrial Maintenance Service Company for 30 years.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Ada; stepfather, Leroy Tate; son, Randal Eugene; grandson, Kyle Jackson; and great-granddaughter, Braylee Shea.

He is survived by his loving family, including three daughters: Grace Bates (James) of Harvest, Alabama; Kim Harvin of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Melissa Johnson of Bourbonnais, Illinois. He also leaves behind two sons: Kevin Jackson of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Damon Jackson (Ronnita) of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Additionally, Gene is remembered by his bonus daughter, June Hinton-Jones, and his spiritual brother, Sam (Dottie) Spearman. His legacy continues through thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends who cherish his memory.

Gene Jackson's life was a testament to faith, love, and dedication. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
