Elizabeth Shockley was born on November 19, 1936, to Ocea R. Day and James R. Allen in Pinkerton, Alabama.
Elizabeth aka Miss Liz was a force to be reckoned with as a business woman, an entrepreneur of great success, and a proud pillar of the community. In her early years, she lived a life of glamour as she managed a thriving beauty salon for over 30 years which led her into being a stylist for multiple people including famous pianist, Dorothy Donegan. Eventually, her life's work evolved as she poured into students. Retiring as an educator at Ravenscroft Beauty College, she provided essential skills in cosmetics, beauty and fashion. She made sure her students were able to see the world of hair through travels to Chicago and Las Vegas; fueling professionalism and passion in the next generation, Elizabeth continued to stay engaged as a member of the Chamber of Commerce and served as a community advocate and an influential voice as an elected member of the Fort Wayne City Council.
In her personal life, she was equally bold. Her presence was known when she walked into a room. A proud member of the Eastern Star, she was always dressed to impress, had a love for travel, enjoyed dining at fine restaurants and loved rolling in style in her Cadillacs,
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband Coy Shockley, her mother, father, son Abdullah Saleem, and sister Ruby Allen. She leaves to cherish her memory as a reputable force of life and love, her son Anthony “Tony” Allen and daughter Kimberly (Steven) Elder; her only grandson, Jermoine “Jay” Gorman and granddaughters Tyionne (Terance) Allen, Whitney Gorman, Indonesia Allen, and Phalon Walker;10 great grandchildren; two nephews, Kevin Allen and Michael Lamb and a niece Decarlo Allen, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
