Elbirda Davis Still Obituary

Reflections of Life

Elbirda Davis Still, was born October 14, 1930, in Lexington County, SC, the daughter of the late Johnny A. Davis and Ozella Davis Jones. She was a long resident of Johnston, SC until October of 2012 when she moved to Fort Wayne, IN. She was residing at Kingston Nursing Home when God called her home to join His eternal garden.

She received her education and graduated from the Edgefield County Public School system. At an early age she became member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Johnston, SC. She served as President of the Usher Board and a member of the Willing Worker’s Club, supervisor over kitchen staff and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was faithful in her service to her church until she relocated. In Johnston she was known as the biscuit queen of Hardee’s. She was a baker at heart. You could always find her baking and selling pound cakes and along with her key lime cakes.

After moving to Fort Wayne, she joined Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was a faithful member known as Mother Still. She loved coming to Sunday School where you could hear her say “All you have to do is pray and have faith.”

On May 6, 1946, Elbirda was united unto Holy wedlock to the late Thomas Still. This union was blessed with four children, two preceding her in death: Thomas Jr, and John Earnest. Elbirda was a devoted mother and grandmother. She did her best to teach them to love God and each other.

She will surely be missed and we take comfort in knowing we will see her again in our Eternal Home with our LORD. Those she leaves to cherish her precious memories are, Mazell Martin of Fort Wayne, and Willie Albert Still of Rock Hill, SC., two brothers James Davis (Corine), and Matthew Jones, one sister Ellen McManus of Ridge Spring, SC, seven grandchildren, thirteenth great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who so dearly loved her.
