Eddie Lee Young

Eddie Lee Young departed this life on July 31, 2023 at Greystone Nursing Facility. He was born on November 24, 1940 in Whelen Springs, Arkansas to the union of the late Odie and Artie Bell Young. He was the sixth child of 13 children. 

Eddie accepted Christ at an early age at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Whelen Springs, Arkansas and continued his commitment to Christ while serving faithfully as a member of the Star of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed serving in the men’s ministry, Sunday school, maintenance facility and as a member of the trustee board.

While attending Gurdon High School, Eddie met and would later marry his high school sweetheart, Maggielean Lagrone Young. While seeking employment, the young couple took a leap of faith and migrated to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1962.

Eddie was well known as a skilled repairman. He took on many entrepreneurial roles which included owning an automotive garage, construction company, and home improvement business. Eddie would always go above and beyond to help each person he encountered. He was loving and truly one of a kind. Eddie had a passion for classic automobiles and a sweet tooth for honey buns. He adored his Jack Russell Terrier named Champ; who he would often sing melodies to. Eddie was a former employee of American Hoist and retired from Marriott Hotels in 2009, after 17 years of service. 

Eddie leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 52 years: Maggielean Young, children: Eddie Wayne (Kathy) Young,  Raymond (Lolita) Young both of Fort Wayne, IN., Curtis (Jacqueline) Jones of Frederick, MD., Donna Fowlkes Young, Joyce (Ronnie) Fincher both of Fort Wayne, IN., Antonia Whitfield of Germantown, MD., and Pamla Young of Fort Wayne, IN.; 22 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; a sister: Mary Alice Walker of Gurdon, AR.; brothers: Freddie (Glenee) Young of Los Angeles, CA., Alfonzo (Delia) Young Prescott, AR., and Raymond (Diane) Young of Prescott, AR.; aunt: Irene Young Haynie of Prescott, AR., a brother-in-law George Lagrone Jr., of Fort Wayne, IN., sisters-in-laws Gwen Young of Rockford, IL., Bernicteen Wingfield of Emmet, AR., and Mary Francis Thomas of Fort Wayne, IN., and a multitude of extended family including nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Odie and Artie Bell Young, sister: Verdia Young, brothers: Odie Young Jr., Alvin Young, Marvell Young, Ivory Young, Ozell Young, Calvin Young and Charlie Ray Young.
