Dorothy Jean (Buxton) Jackson

Dorothy Jean Jackson, age 68, passed away on Thursday, April 6 at the Park View Regional Medical Center in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Dorothy was born on March 25, 1955 in New Madrid County, Missouri, the 7th of 12 children, to Frank and Annie Mae Gable Buxton. She attended school at Ogden School, and in Canalou and Matthews, Missouri. Upon the death of her mother in 1960 she lived with her grandmother Mallie Buxton Robinson and two Aunts, Ella and Susanna Buxton. She was the mother of 3 children, Jennifer, Lee and Jamie Buxton who were all born in Missouri. She and her children moved to Chicago in the 1980s. Eventually she moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana where she lived until her passing. She married Jesse J. Jackson, May 21, 2007 in Indiana.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her son Jamie and daughter Jennifer;  6 brothers, Eugene, Archie, John, James, Paul, and Thomas and half-sister Olivia Dixon-Barnes.

Survivors include her husband Jesse, son Lee, step-daughter Shalanta Hood, brothers JT (Marian), and Chris (Gayle) Buxton; sisters Helen and Ella Buxton, and Pauline Ellis; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 18 at Nelson Memorial Gardens, 1338 Eliza Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
