Dorothy L. Fuller Byrd was born March 6, 1933 in Scooba, Mississippi.
She was the daughter of the late Leo and Eather (Patterson) Fuller. She was baptized at an early age. On November 29, 1948 she married Arthur Byrd, Sr. to this union eight children were born. In 1975, they relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Dorothy united with St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. James W. Bledsoe and continued to be a faithful member under the leadership of Pastor Frederick A. Sleet until her health began to decline. She was a member of St. John Women’s Ministry. She retired from Lutheran Hospital in April 1995.
Dorothy dedicated her life to the well-being of her family. She was a faithful wife, loving mother and mother-in-law. She was an awesome grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, and sister who was always there for her family. Her children would sit and talk with her, the matriarch and historian of the family. She was truly a virtuous woman. She left many memories that her children will have in their hearts forever. She called all her children and grandchildren on their birthdays. Her grandchildren always looked forward to the birthday call from their grandmother. So much love that will forever be in their hearts.
On Tuesday, March 28, 2023, she departed this earthly life and took her final rest. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Thelma Tabron of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Arthur (Carol) Byrd, Jr. of Olympia Fields, Illinois, Mattie (Eugene) Blackwell, Jr. of Frankfort, Illinois, British Byrd-Jones of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Darrell (Debra) Byrd of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Bernadette LaMaster of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Stacy (Rhonda) Byrd of Venus, Texas; brother, George Fuller of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sisters, Mary Cooper of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Alice Smith of Columbus, Ohio; sisters-in-laws, Alva B. Fuller, Ella Fuller, Ucala Fuller; 21 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Sr., daughter, Bernadine Russell; four brothers, Leo, Willie, Freddie and Curtis; two sisters, Etta Fowlkes, Hattie Blair and a granddaughter, Amelia Byrd.
