Artheria (Wright) Jones

Artheria was born July 27, 1949, in Chicago, IL. She was a Guardian Angel of many children and retired banker of 40 years, Artheria “Arty” Jones’ sincerity for life will be remembered with love long after her passing. Artheria went home to be with the Lord December 8, 2021, at the age of 72. Today, where I go, Jesus goes with me. - Amen

She was preceded in death by her grandmother Rusia Mae (Brooks) Corbin; parents Johnnie Wright Sr. and Mary McGilbery; stepfather Henry A. McGilbery; sister Loretta Haney.

Artheria leaves to cherish her memories: one brother, Johnny Wright Jr. of Chicago, IL. and wife Grace; two sisters, Rushell Wright and Faye Stevens and husband Pierre of Fort Wayne, IN; her daughter Starla Lawshea and husband Michael of Battle Creek, MI; and a host of aunts, uncles, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.  Artheria was a guardian angel to many children.

In 1966 Artheria moved to Mannheim, Germany where she resided for several years before returning to Fort Wayne, IN. Upon her return, Artheria began her life journey in helping people. She was a loving and caring woman who loved her family dearly.  In example, early Christmas morning’s, Artheria would visit her sisters’ residences to play Santa to her nieces and nephews. Artheria enjoyed attending church and listening to religious music. Her single proudest moment was when Barrack Obama became President of the United States of America.

 Artheria’s brother Johnny says, “She was the glue that held everything together.” Artheria’s sister Rushell states, “My sister was amazing…there is no one like her and she will truly be missed.” A quote Artheria was well known for saying is, “right is right and wrong is wrong.” She believed in repaying meanness with kindness and always ending telephone calls with “love you more.”
