A Farewell to a Western Spirit
Beyond the Horizon: Honoring a Life
Archie Williams rode into this world on January 2, 1951, in the small town of Uniontown, Alabama, born to the late Rufus Sr. and Sallie Williams. On Friday, August 30, 2024, he took his final ride into the sunset, surrounded by his loving family.
Frontier Farewell: Celebrating a Life on the Edge
In 1968, Archie saddled up and made his way to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where fate would lead him back to his childhood sweetheart at age 12, Emma (Lee) Williams. Their love sparked and they united in marriage on March 10, 1977, embarking on a journey of love that would last 47 years.
A True Range Rider: Honoring a Life of Grit and Grace
Archie was a man of grit and determination, known for his unyielding work ethic that inspired all those who crossed his path. He wrangled jobs at Viking Fire Protection, Central Soya, Lincoln Food Service, and Archway Cookies. He finally settled down at Fort Wayne Anodizing, where he would hang up his spurs after dedicating 24 years of service to the company.
Honoring a Life of Adventure and Heart: Remembering a Western Soul
Though Archie was known for his hard work, he also knew how to live life to its fullest. He had a passionate spirit for travel, often riding back to Alabama with his brother Geno in his youthful days. Holidays in Alabama were special, as he would make the journey home every Fourth of July and Christmas. His favorite foods, including fresh, hot fish, tender, juicy chicken, and a cold Pepsi, kept him fueled for the ride. Archie was especially grateful for his sister Minnie, who always prepared his beloved meals, offering a comforting taste of Sweet Home Alabama. Archie cherished fishing trips with his brother-in-law Upshaw, while casting a line, sharing stories, and laughter. If he was not traveling or fishing, he could be found watching his favorite western shows, delighting in the cowboy life. His heart was full of joy and pride for his beloved family, who he deeply loved and adored.
A Cowboy Rides Away: Saddled with Memories
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Emma Williams; children, Archie Williams, Towanda (Larry) Whitfield, Eric Davis, Tyrone (Kristina) Williams, Jana Jones, and Kemeisha Winborn; siblings, Ida Madison, David (LaVonne) Williams, Minnie Benjamin, and Rufus Williams Jr.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren that filled his heart with endless love: grandchildren, Archie, Myesha, Andre, Mikaela, and Arshaud Williams, Ashley Hampton, Jaylen Whitfield, Kayla Harshbarger, Tyrone (Amy) Williams, Breeaunna Williams, Ladontre (Renee Smith) Tolbert, Ken’Aisa White, Jasionna Johnson, and Keion Winborn; great-grandchildren, Artrell, Jamari, A’Marien, A’Mir, Andre Jr., and Kai Williams, Samyia Hampton, Samyian McCullan, Nevaeh Harshbarger, Nia James, Kyaire Morton, Lilyana Adams, Brooklynn Williams, Eva Guerrero, and Emmanuel Tolbert; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Gray, Catherine Upshaw, Martha Joe, and Virginia Lee; and brother-in-law, Willie (Emma) Lee.
Archie was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Sr. and Sallie Williams; brothers, Richard (Maggie), Charlie, Tommie, and Johnnie Williams; sisters, Dorothy Allen, Evelyn (Roosevelt) Hilliard, and Mary Ella (Melvin) Johnson; and brother-in-law, Joseph Benjamin.
Archie Williams will be deeply missed, but his legacy will ride on through the stories and memories shared among family and friends. Rest easy, Archie, until we meet again on the open range.
