Alvin Harris Obituary

Alvin C. Harris, a devoted family man and faithful servant of Christ, passed

away peacefully to his Heavenly home on August 29, 2025 at the age of

89. Born on November 30, 1935 in Columbus, Ohio, to Andrew and Fannie

Harris. Alvin’s life was defined by his unwavering, distinguished character

and unconditional love for others.

Alvin learned at an early age to put God first and all else would be given

unto him. He also understood what it meant to work hard and apply

yourself and your reward would be what God intends for you. Alvin

attended Central State University and received his bachelor's degree in

music education, was a member of the US Army 325th infantry - 82nd

Airborne Division, and later in life received his master’s degree from Saint

Francis University.

Before leaving for Fort Bragg, NC, Alvin married his college sweetheart

Eugenia and their life as one began. Of that union, they had three beautiful

children: Felicia, Lance and Dana.

Alvin pursued a career in education throughout his lifetime. He was

employed by Fort Wayne Community Schools from the 1960s to 2004

when he retired. Alvin began his career at Northside High School and went

on to Anthis Career Center automotive program, FWCS admin, Elmhurst

High School and Southside High School where he retired from. After

retirement, Alvin continued to work for different automotive groups. He was

employed by Kelley Automotive Group as a porter and Preferred

Automotive Group as a porter/shuttle driver.

It was while working at Preferred where he met his beloved wife Valeria.

Alvin said it was ‘love at first sight.’ Their love was strong and never

wavering; built on a solid foundation of faith, joy and peace – the kind of

love that withstood all trials and remained strong as they loved and

supported their families.

Alvin loved traveling and family vacations – the longer the distance to their

destination, the more he enjoyed the drive. Alvin enjoyed being involved

with the various churches he and his family attended and being involved in

his community. He was a lifelong Ohio State football fan and enjoyed

cheering against Michigan and his football arch nemesis and friend Ricky

Brown.

Alvin is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Valeria; sons Lance Harris

and Dana (Cathy) Harris; daughters Franchesca (TiAhna) Williams and

Alexandra (James) Leathers; sister in-law Ann Harris of Seattle, WA;

brother-in-laws Walter Jones and Ken (Charade) Jones; sister-in-laws

Trena Jones and Lori (Bryan) Jones; grandchildren: Issac, Zachariah,

Alyssa, Olivia, Joshua, Amora, Hannah, Cameron, Airyan, Zyon, Jayhon,

Journeé, Cyrus and A’Loni; and a long list of nephews, nieces, cousins and

friends whom he cherished deeply. He is also survived by Willie “Flash”

Sanders who was like a brother and Tony Miller who was like a son to him.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Fannie Harris; his

former wife Eugenia; daughter Felicia; brothers Reuban and Lawrence and

Lawrence’s wife Virginia; sister Lena Nuttall; mother-in-law Anna; and a

host of relatives so near and dear to his heart.

Alvin’s legacy will live on through his family and friends and through the

lives of the community he helped shape.
