We are celebrating the life of Almatena "Tena" Thompson, 69, from Chicago, Illinois. She was called home on Monday, January 29, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Tena was born April 15, 1954 to Tena and John Harris. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and a brother, John "Billy" Harris. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Johnnay (Terrell Lewis) Thompson and Amber Walker, and a bonus daughter, Katina Williams, two grandchildren, Trevon Walker, Sr., and Ciera Walker, and one great-grandson, Trevon Walker, Jr., her sister, Angie (Fred) Hatchett, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Tena graduated from Calumet High School in 1972, and later married in 1974 at the age of 18. She began working at Chubb Insurance Company as an Insurance Underwriter. She retired after a 36 year career in insurance.
Tena always devoted her life to God and her family. She was passionate about her faith and church. As a loyal member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, she was often seen ushering and volunteering with a smile.
In Tena’s 69 years of life, she was so many things to so many people. She was a daughter, sister, mom, “granny”, Mimi, auntie, hero, and friend. Tena truly had a heart of gold. She will truly be missed.
